Dehra Dun : Wildlife enthusiasts, particularly those keen on seeing the big cats, have reasons to be happy. The gates of the Jim Corbett National Park, which boasts of the highest density of tigers in the country will be thrown open to the public from Nov 15.

In fact, the Rajaji National Park, which is in the lower periphery of this hill state is also being opened to tourists from the same date. While Corbett has a large number of tigers and a variety of wildlife, Rajaji boasts of a number of wild elephants and leopards, besides members of the antelope family.

Most of the tiger watching at the Corbett is done on elephant back, as they go into the dense forest through the foliage making sigthing that much easier. There are also water holes where the big cats come for drinking water and lying in wait at these places also rewards those with the patience.

For those keen on sighting wild elephants, the ideal time to visit the Rajaji National Park is late December and January, as the movement of the elephant herds from Kotdwara and Kalagarh in the Corbett area starts. They start moving towards the Rajai National Park, which remains there home for the two winter.
